Knitting: The Sweater Conundrum
You may know this guy:
Alan Tudyk who plays Wash on this terrific show:
You might know this guy too:
Martin Freeman, who plays Watson on this excellent show:
Watson wears a sweater in the show that I suddenly really, really wanted to knit! (Did I suddenly really, really want to knit it because I’m procrastinating on getting my word count done today? Um….I’ll get back to you on that later.)
Here’s Watson’s sweater:
I even found a pattern for it on Ravelry, and was all ready to start knitting when I suddenly realized….
…Wash wore a sweater I liked too, and I started knitting it 2-ish years ago and never finished it.
What to do? Should I start a new sweater or finish the old? Watson or Wash? Wash or Watson? I couldn’t have gotten very far on Wash’s sweater. Maybe I should start fresh with my improved knitting skills.
After some serious debate (ha!) on Twitter and Facebook, I pulled out Wash’s sweater. Here it is:
I had no idea I’d gotten all the way to just under the arms! Knit in the round, it is easily halfway done. I’m not loving the weird pulling on the stitches around the center cable, but I think this was my first cable project and I recall that spot really throwing me. I’ve had more cable practice since then, and could probably make the sweater much cleaner.
Maybe I’ll pull it back a bit, fix it up and get knitting again like a leaf on the wind! And then I’ll have the coziest sweater in the ‘verse to wear while I’m knitting Watson’s sweater. Knit two sweaters from two shows I love? Why, yes. It’s elementary, my dear.

Finish the Firefly one first!
I too have an unfinished sweater that taunts me from the project basket. A beautiful purple thin cotton yarn that I fell in love with. The cardigan is an old pattern from the 50’s that was too advanced for me at the time. Now I’m a better knitter and crocheter but I’m a voracious reader too (why knit when I have so many books to read?) so I’m better off just frogging it based on that pattern and remaking it using my own invented pattern. Or I’ll just let it continue to sit there in the basket and work on the gauntlet gloves for the kids instead.
