In The Win Pile
One more reminder!
I’ll be signing alongside the fabulous Diana Pharaoh Francis
Saturday, August 24th – 4:00 – Escape Fiction in Salem Oregon
I’ll also be giving away one of these:
Hell Bent, book #1 in the spinoff Broken Magic series won’t be out until November. November, people. And sure, it has some typos and other pre-proof errors, but hey–free and early. That’s cool, right?
Days Off
Back at the beginning of August I made a promise to myself that I would walk away from the computer at a certain time each night so that I had a little of the evening off to Not Be Writing. The idea here was to create more structure in my work life and not-work life, so that hopefully, I would be more rested and more productive. I was even hoping for at least one day off a week.
It’s not the end of August yet, but I can tell you that I’ve failed. As is my habit, I’ve written every day of this month, often into the late evening hours. I’m working my way through revisions on Stone Cold (book #1 in the Broken Magic series) and as I mentioned earlier this week, a lot of this revision has been dumping scenes that don’t work and writing new scenes that do work.
But I don’t feel like a failure. I have stopped working after I’ve hit my page count goal (instead of pushing for more until I burn completely out) and that is a nice little change that has given me a few evenings free to watch a show, or cruise the internet. I’ve been keeping my three-days-a-week goal of posting on my blog, which makes me feel good. So I’m putting these small changes in the win pile of my balance-your-life goals.
This Saturday, I’ll be taking some time off to do a signing at a local independent bookstore that has been SO VERY supportive of me since my first book. If you can make it, I’d love to see you there. If you can’t, I certainly encourage you to check out Escape Fiction if you’re in the area, or driving through. They are a new and used bookstore and have a great selection. Also, *hint hint* they are happy to take online orders and will have a bunch of my books signed and ready to go.
Now, it’s time to get some work done. You all have a nice weekend, okay? And if you can, take a moment or two off. 🙂

I went to your fb pg because I was going to post on your wall ’73 days…that is all. <3 Shame' but posting wasn't permitted.
Saw you had a blog up while I was there so I swung by.
Oh, how I wish I could come to the signing. It'd be SO awesome, but the Midwest is a far cry from Oregon. 🙁
YAY for making baby steps! Always celebrate the small things! It makes you appreciate the big things so much more.
While writing is your passion and you're fab at it, it's still your job and just like with any job if you push too hard for too long you get burnt out and the creative juices stop flowing.
You are a REAL person with a REAL family who both need YOU time. It is easy for fans to not think of writers, actors, atheletes and musicians as 'real people'. You are there soley to entertain and to keep entertaining. We are slave drivers who demand: more, better, NOW.
So if your not-work life is craving attention, give it. 🙂 Will I pay your bills when they arrive in the mailbox, you ask? No. 😉 that's where your balance your life goal comes into account.
You keep doing you and moving towards your end goal, and I'll keep doing me and patiently counting down the days until your next brilliant installment.
So my 'that is all' ended up a little long winded, but you now know you have the support of at least one fan! 😀
