Stone the Gargoyle Pattern
Want to knit your very own Stone the Gargoyle?
Download the knitting pattern to get started on your buddy and protector against evil spirits and other spooky things that go bump in the night. This guy can be knit up in two different sizes.
What You’ll Need
- Worsted weight or chunky weight yarn
- US #4 DPN’s (3.5 mm) or US #11 DPN’s (8.0 mm)
- The PDF pattern available for download

Oh, he is just toooooo adorable! Stone is one of my FAVORITE characters in the series, too … I’ve collected traditional gargoyle sculptures forever, but would never have thought of knitting stone. 😉 Clever lady!

I am knitting him flat at the moment. Just done head and body and about to do the rest. If you like I will tell you what I did when I finish him in the next couple of days and I work out if it can all be done flat.

Thank you so much for your wonderful writing and for sharing this pattern! My book-sharing buddy had been pestering me to make her one of these for almost a year and as soon as I read the Allie Beckstrom novels I just had to tackle it. The only issue? I don’t knit, I crochet! The end result of my efforts to convert the pattern looks a little different but is still absolutely beloved by all who see him. I put a balloon stuffed with marbles in his belly for the voice.

I am knitting Stone right now. I started him according to the directions but the muzzle was below the decrease that separates the head from the body. It looked out of place to me. I ripped back and placed the muzzle after the first decrease to 40 stitches (Row 21) I skipped to Row 34 and completed the muzzle. After doing a knit row I went back to Row 22 to decrease for the neck and increase to 40 stitches. I have worked 7 knit rows but I am not sure how long to make the body of the smaller Stone. Is it only knit to accommodate the arms and legs? Also last row of muzzle was confusing.
Perhaps it is just my interpretation as no one else seems to have had any difficulties. Thank you for the pattern.
